Police are questioning a person of interest after a woman was beaten and robbed after she left a CTA Blue Line station in Wicker Park over the weekend.
The man turned himself in at the Area Central station at 5101 S. Wentworth Ave. around midnight Tuesday, hours after police issued a surveillance photo of the person suspected of attacking the 23-year-old woman.
The woman had left the station at 1558 N. Damen Ave., around 3:30 a.m. Sunday. A man followed her several blocks to the 1600 block of North Bell Avenue in Bucktown, according to Chicago police. He dragged her to a gangway and beat her, robbed her and took her clothes off, police said.
The attacker was described as 20 to 25, about 5-foot-7 and weighing about 155 pounds.
Police are investigating whether a carjacking Tuesday night is linked to the Blue Line attack because descriptions of the suspects are similar, police said.
The carjacking happened about 6:15 p.m. in the 1400 block of North Bosworth Avenue in the Noble Square neighborhood.
A 41-year-old man left a garage in an alley in the 1400 block of North Bosworth Avenue when a man about 20 to 25 years old and wearing a black hoodie approached him, showed a gun and demanded his property, police said.
The robber fled with the man's 2007 Honda, which contained the victim’s wallet and cell phone, police said.
No one was injured and no arrests have been made. Anyone with information can contact Area North detectives, 312-744-8263.
