Gunman in white mask confronts security guard: 'I'm going to kill all you officers'

The security guard was making her rounds at a building in Chinatown when she saw a man in a white mask standing outside an apartment, mumbling.

She asked if he was alright and the man pulled a gun with an extended clip from his waist Wednesday afternoon. "I'm going to kill all you officers, management and maintenance," he yelled, according to a police report.

The man fired three times as the guard ran to the security office at 2220 South Archer Ave.  She was not hit and the man ran around the corner at Stewart Avenue, firing several more shots in the air before tossing the gun in a garbage can, police said.

Deering District police officers caught up with the man in the 200 block of West Cermak Road.  They found a Smith & Wesson handgun in the garbage can and a green jacket discarded in a nearby alley.  Officers recovered shell casings in the 2200 block of South Stewart and in the 2200 block of South Archer.

Police identified the suspect as Maurice Strickland, 30, and charged him with felony aggravated discharge of a weapon, felony reckless discharge of a firearm, misdemeanor criminal trespassing and misdemeanor firearm without a valid FOID card.

Strickland, who lives in the first block of East 68th Street, was scheduled to appear in bond court on Friday.
