It’s hard to fathom anyone cruel enough to sentence a dying woman to prison, but apparently such a person exists and sits on a judge’s bench in Cook County.
From all accounts, Bonnie Liltz was a devoted mother to the severely disabled daughter she’d adopted. When she found that her health was declining after a battle with cancer, and fearing for what future her daughter might have without her, she overdosed herself and her daughter.
Despite prosecutors’ recommendations for mercy, the judge sentenced her to prison, where he knew she’d die.
Some day this judge may find himself in a situation where he requires mercy, and he may find that what goes around comes around.
