Investigators are questioning numerous people in a criminal investigation into a 7-week-old baby girl who died Monday in Round Lake Park after suffering "suspicious injuries."
"We are interviewing the parents, family and friends," said Sgt. Christopher Covelli, spokesman for the Lake County Major Crime Task Force, called into the investigation by Round Lake Park police.
The victim was identified as Andrea S. Lara-Heidbrick, according to Covelli.
A statement released Tuesday by the task force reported that injuries to the infant were discovered during an autopsy by the Lake County coroner's office.
But the cause and manner of the child's death was not determined and is pending additional tests that could take several weeks.
"There were injuries to the infant, including the head," Covelli said.
Officers were dispatched to an apartment on East Main Street at 3:10 a.m. Monday to assist ambulance personnel from the Greater Round Lake Fire Protection District, who answered a call about a female infant having trouble breathing.
Lara-Heidbrick was taken to Advocate Condell Medical Center in Libertyville, where she was pronounced dead, Covelli said.
A man who said he was the owner of Lara's Garage at 26 East Main St., Round Lake Park, said the couple and baby previously lived in an apartment attached to the automobile repair shop, and there were no problems when they lived there.
Round Lake Park and task force investigators continue to investigate the circumstances surrounding the infant's death, Covelli said.
